Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.: Progressive Insurance
Marisa Afzali is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Director for Progressive Insurance. In this role, she is responsible for developing and implementing enterprise strategies to leverage, advance, and integrate DEI across the organization, and create a culture where all people feel safe, welcomed, valued and respected. Marisa joined Progressive in 2007 as a Senior HR Consultant. During her time she has also held positions in talent management and D&I operations. Prior to joining Progressive, she held roles in HR management and consulting in the education and health care fields, founded a University’s first diversity council and inclusion efforts, and initiated DEI educational initiatives. Marisa has more than 20 years of experience in diversity and inclusion, talent management, recruiting, leadership development and employee engagement. She has served on the board of the Washington State Association for Multicultural Education, has been featured in DiversityInc and CAREERS and the disABLED magazines, and has been a presenter at the Forum on Workplace Inclusion, Diversity Best Practices and various other conferences. She holds a Master’s degree in HR Management as well as a SHRM-SCP certification. Marisa currently resides in Seattle, Washington with her husband Nickrooz.
